5th Technical Seminar: Power Skiving
Those who start with a lot of advance praise sometimes have a hard time. Power skiving started out as a great hope in gear technology and has indeed already fulfilled many expectations: Both internal and external gears can be produced productively, and errors can be compensated directly via the machine axes. In addition, the technology can be retrofitted to universal machines and thus integrated into the turning operation.
In the meantime, power skiving has become one of the established processes in the production halls of gear manufacturers and must therefore also be measured against the standards applied to hobbing and other processes.
This year, our seminar is titled "Plug & Play – a Pipe Dream for Power Skiving?".
With this, we want to draw attention, somewhat provocatively, to the fact that not all designed processes and tools actually work right away. In some cases, the designed processes do not immediately achieve the required quality, or the tools do not achieve sufficient tool life, and therefore the tool costs tend to be proportionally too high. Complex optimization loops usually lead to success here, often based on the principle of trial and error.
This year, we want to ask critical questions again: What is the reason for this? What makes power skiving so challenging? But also: What solutions are there for the tasks described?
For the fifth time now, Fraunhofer IWU, together with PWS Präzisionswerkzeuge GmbH, is hosting the Power Skiving Technical Seminar. Look forward to informative presentations by renowned speakers on the topics of machines, tools, and processes. As part of a trade exhibition, the solutions of various providers can also be examined, and "power skiving live" can be experienced under cutting conditions in the Fraunhofer IWU's testing facility.
